Our slippers are classic French ' Charentaises'; this traditional style is over 350 years old and dates from the reign of Louis X1V when waste felt from the paper industry and wool offcuts from naval uniforms were in good supply.
A regional industry set up combining felt soles and wool uppers into liners to fit inside wooden clogs. Parts of the modern slippers are still made by hand using the ancient artisanal skills and we love the combination of our signature welsh tapestry weaves with this classic slipper.
The fabric repeat is quite large so the two slippers are not identical, every pair is unique. The wool felt soles are treated so you can step outside in them and the wool fleece inside makes them cosy and warm.
